Mary Jo [Pease] McPherron grew up around Tippecanoe and taught school in Madison township, St Joe county, but her late husband Tom taught school in Bremen. He coached girls’ track and boys’ wrestling and taught higher mathematics for many years. Tom also served in the United States Army Reserves for several decades, eventually rising to full colonel. This summer, Mary Jo made plans to move to Florida permanently and donated a number of items to the Bremen History Center to share will our visitors.
Among the items is a photo album of teams Tom coached. You can find the digitized versions on our Flickr account. Use the next and previous arrows on the gallery below to see the photos. Click a photo to view a larger version on the Flickr page.
Aside from yearbook and children’s books, Mary Jo also donated a wonderful century-old baby doll carriage now on display as well as Tom’s military uniforms and insignia and plaques for his service to school and country.
She also donated her beloved Baldwin organ to the Community Center project being carried out by Community Cares and Historic Bremen. It will occupy the choir loft in the old church.

We thank Mary Jo for her generous donations. They will help ensure the memory of Tom’s broad smile and easy-going style are remembered in Bremen for many years. You can find various newspaper articles on the McPherrons among our family research.
