George W Whitlock owned and operated Whitlock’s Five and Dime for 28 years, starting in 1947. He married Jesse Fry in 1935 and they had two children, Robert and Ann, who married David Sellers. Whitlock’s was first located at 114 S Center St across from the town hall/police station/fire dept building. In 1959, it was remodeled with a new aluminum marquee and colored limestone front.

In 1966, Whitlock’s moved around to W Plymouth St, where Danner’s store had been. George Whitlock retired in 1972 and passed away in 1979.
