At the turn of the 20th century, the Koontz/Kuntz brothers—sons of Adam Kuntz, Jr—became, among other things, photographers. One of the things they did in that occupation was photograph neighbors’ farms northeast of Bremen. Some of these old photos survive, but most show old houses and barns that have long since been demolished. One that hasn’t is the John Hoeh residence.

John Hoeh lived on B Road, just east of Dogwood. The house is now owned by Kenan Steele.

At one time, John Hoeh had some trouble with what he claimed was a large lynx, prompting a hunting party which was at first unsuccessful but a month later put paid to the legend, even if the creature turned out to be more pedestrian.
