November 11, 1918 was the day the First World War came to a merciful end. More than 200 area boys had served in the military, many in the fields of France and Flanders, and several never returning. In 1943, in the middle of World War 2, the Bremen Enquirer remembered the end of the earlier war, including Ed Hans playing tunes on the town whistle.
