On July 20, Township trustee clerk Kim Baker dropped off several record books of trustee business over the years. One of them is the very first book of school business for the township, with records dating as early as 1853. In it, the trustees established the first schoolhouses and numbered the districts.

It is Historic Bremen’s honor to be entrusted with these records and to use them for research purposes.

The first recorded act was to accept funds from the county to fund the school and then to pay Hannah Moore (likely to the town’s log-cabin school marm) $9.38, approved by George Pomeroy, German township trustee president and the man who more or less founded the town of Bremen.
