Following the 72-year release schedule, the 1950 census became available to the public in April of 2022, and genealogy organizations leapt on it. This census has a significantly different form from previous ones. It is oriented vertically and arranged more compactly. It asks detailed employed information, probably in an attempt to see the differences between post-war employment and pre-war employment.

At the bottom of every page are sample lines, with extra questions for five of the thirty people listed on the page. For the first time, there is also a space to indicate which roads and which direction the enumerator took, making it easier to find people who lived in rural areas without house addresses.
