Bremen residents were awfully proud of their family doctor getting elected governor of the whole state. The moment he was elected, they decided to name a street for him. The one they chose was on the west side and had been called “Saint Joseph Street” since at least 1876. Now it’s “Bowen Avenue”.
Doc had come to Bremen in 1946 to take over the practice of departing doctor Burke and had gotten into politics as county coroner then state legislator in the 1950s.
