The book was written by Sheila Reed. Sheila is retired from Bremen Public Schools, where she taught 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades for thirty-six years. Introducing students to history through the study of Indiana was the highlight of most days in her classroom. Taking 10-year-olds on overnight field trips to experience first hand parts of that Indiana history became a favorite memory of hundreds of Bremen kids.
Born, growing up, and living nearly all of her life in Bremen, Sheila has deep roots in her hometown history. She tells Doc Bowen’s story in a way that fourth graders can relate to and take inspiration from.
Sheila served on the Board of the Marshall County Historical Society for many years. She has researched, written, and privately published her family genealogy story.
Upon retiring, she discovered a hidden talent for painting. Her watercolor paintings are marketed at local art shows. And, once a teacher, always a teacher, she now teaches painting classes locally. Currently Sheila is illustrating a children’s book for spring publishing of 2021.
She and her husband of over 50 years tend their flower and veggie garden, travel around the country and Europe, and enjoy time spent with their two sons and their sons, extended family and friends.
